CORKS COMEDY HOUR
Friday, January 27. Ten years ago Corks Comedy Hour was born in the upstairs of Corks Winebar & Eatery. Come help us celebrate our decennial with some of the most hilarious professional comics around. Jackie Pirico hosts with the fabulous Tom Henry, Brandon Ash-Mohammed and Nigel Grinstead.
Named by Exclaim! Magazine as a quickly rising force in comedy and an “adept comic scene stealer” by The Hollywood Reporter, Jackie Pirico delights audiences with her oddball material and high-energy style. With multiple television tapings under her belt, Jackie’s live performances can be seen on Crave's JFL All Access, CTV's The Stand Up Show, CTV's Roast Battle Canada, and more. Jackie recently opened for Marc Maron at Toronto’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre and performs every week as a member of the prestigious Toronto comedy collective Laugh Sabbath!
Tom Henry is a comedian, actor and writer from Toronto. His acclaimed hour long Stand Up Special, ‘66 Jokes’, can be found on Crave TV. He's appeared on The Comedy Network, and at festivals such as Just For Laughs, San Francisco Sketchfest and Bridgetown Comedy Festival. He's opened for comics such as Tim Meadows, Nikki Glaser and Moshe Kasher and has been a regular on Andy Kindler's Alternative Show. Kindler also chose him as "The Next Big Thing" stating "Tom Henry is a comic who you could say he’s a little bit like Mitch Hedberg, a little bit Steven Wright, but he’s in a category by himself" He was named as one of LA Riot Fest's Comics to Watch in 2017 and was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Stand-Up Newcomer in 2012. His album, ‘Tom Henry Kills’ reached number one on the iTunes comedy charts. He’s written for CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes and has acted in shows such as Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, and Amazon Prime’s The Boys.
Brandon Ash-Mohammed is a comedian and writer. He has been named a JFL Montreal New Face and was the winner of a Canadian Screen Award for his work as Head Writer on Canada’s Drag Race. In 2018, he created The Ethnic Rainbow (Canada's first & only comedy show for LGBT comedians of colour). Brandon's album, 'Capricornication', which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Canada comedy charts made him the first gay, black Canadian to release a comedy album. NPR's Bullseye named it "one of the best comedy albums of 2020." Brandon was one of the stars of Amazon original series Last One Laughing: Canada. Mostly recently, he served as the Toronto correspondent on the longest-running comedy show in Canadian history, This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Nigel Grinstead's laid back charm and absurd takes on life have earned him the reputation of being one of the goofiest and most imaginative comics in the Canadian scene.
Jumpstarting his career with consecutive victories in high-profile competition generated a lot of buzz, receiving the Tim Sim's Encouragement Fund for his win at Cream of Comedy 2013, placing first in the 2014 Toronto Comedy Brawl, as well as taking home first place at the Homegrown competition at Montreal's Just For Laughs Festival: an annual contest recognizing the strongest upcoming Canadian talent.
All of this momentum granted him the opportunity to perform in festivals all across the country including the Cottage Country Comedy Festival, Sudbury's LOL Festival, and NXNE. Above all, Nigel has had the distinct honor of taping two sets at Just For Laughs to air on The Comedy Network, as well as one set for CBC Television at the Halifax Comedy Festival. He was also a finalist in Sirius XM's Top Comic competition and has performed at renowned venues such as Massey Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Theater. Nigel has opened for many international headliners and you can hear his comedy on the radio, see it on TV, or catch him live coast to coast!
